Action Plan and OEMPr for the Great Kei Local Municipality Solid Waste Transfer Stations within the Amathole District Municipality, Eastern Cape

The Great Kei Local Municipality (GKLM) is in the process of registering the Chintsa and Kei Mouth Transfer Stations with the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT). In support of the application for the registrations, the GKLM is required submit Operational Environmental Management Programmes (OEMPr) for each Transfer Station. 

During engagements with DEDEAT, the Department requested that the GKLM also submit Action Plans for each Transfer Station demonstrating how it intends to remedy the current situations at both these Transfer Stations such that these Facilities will be in a position to operate in compliance with the conditions in the OEMPr and all other relevant legislation.  

The GKLM Solid Waste Transfer Stations must comply with the following Norms and Standards under the National Environmental Management Waste Act (NEM: WA):

  •      National Norms and Standards for the Storage of Waste (2013).
  •      National Norms and Standards for the Sorting, Shredding, Grinding, Crushing, Screening or Baling of General Waste (2017)
