Coleskop Wind Energy Facility

Coleskop Wind Power (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of EDF Renewables (Pty) Ltd, (the Applicant) is proposing the construction of a Wind Energy Facility (WEF), near Noupoort and Middelburg in the Pixley Ka Seme District Municipality (Northern Cape Province) and the Chris Hani District Municipality (Eastern Cape Province).

The proposed Coleskop Wind Energy Facility (WEF) includes the following infrastructure::

• A total of twenty-six (26) wind turbines (5.6 MW) with a rotor diameter of 165m, a hub height of 124m;
  • Primary laydown area of 2 965m² per turbine.
  • Secondary laydown area of 455m² per turbine.
  • Turbine foundations of 452m² per turbine.
• Underground connecting cables (33kV);
• Overhead connecting cables (33kV) (up to 1.5km);
• Operations, Maintenance and Services (OMS) Area (site office);
• Construction compound area;
• Access road;
• Container storage area; and
• Internal access roads between 5m (during operation) and 12m (during construction, to be partially rehabilitated). Up to 40km of existing track upgrades will be required, while up to 5km of new roads will be required.

CES has been appointed by Coleskop Wind Power to undertake ground truthing studies as part of the finalisation of the EMPr and Layout Plans.
