Basic Environmental Impact Assessment for the development of the TCWF Piggery in Tsitsikamma, Eastern Cape Province

Notice is issued in terms of Regulation 41 of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations, published in Government Notice No.326 in Government Gazette No 40772 of 07 April 2017, under the National Environmental Management Act 1998 (Act No 107 of 1998), for the intent to undertake an EIA process for the abovementioned project. This advert further serves as notice for the release of the Draft Basic Assessment report for public review, to ensure that the public participation process is facilitated in such a manner that all potential or registered Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs) are provided with a reasonable opportunity to comment.

As per the EIA regulations, the proposed development will require a Basic Assessment (BA). The TCWF has appointed Coastal and Environmental Services (CES) to undertake the BA and function as the Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP). The application will be submitted to the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT) for environmental authorization. 

Proposed Project: The Tsitsikamma Community Wind Farm is proposing to develop a piggery near Clarkson, Kou-kamma Local Municipality (KLM), seated in the Sarah Baartman District Municipality (SBDM) of the Eastern Cape Province. (Site Coordinates: 34° 2'22.92"S, 24°20'12.88"E)

This application is to obtain Environmental Authorisation to commence with a piggery production facility. The proposed project will include a facility consisting of 50 sows, 3 boars and 500 piglets. The layout plan of the preferred site has been developed but may change based on the outcome of the specialist studies and sensitivity mapping undertaken as part of this assessment.  The proposed development footprint totals approximately 3 ha.

Pig House, Pig shed, Slurry Dam, Feed silos, Internal roads, Water Tanks, Living quarters and Admin offices.
