From its
establishment, CES has always been involved in
coastal matters, to such a degree that is reflected
in the company’s name. Our staff have not only been
conducting management studies in the coastal zone,
but also become recognized experts on dune systems.
To many of our clients, CES and the coastal zone is
synonymous, and a testament to this is the large
number of projects that we undertake in the coastal
zone. Given the stricter regulatory framework
proposed by the Integrated Coastal Zone Management
Bill, it can be expected that greater emphasis will
be placed on the environmental aspects of the
coastal zone as a whole. Prior to the promulgation
of this Bill, CES prepared the Eastern Cape Coast
Management Programme, to assist the Eastern Cape
Government to be in line with the requirements of
the White Paper on Coastal Management. CES also
assisted Marine & Coastal Management to determine
the financial and other costs of implementing the
Bill, and prepared a comprehensive Integrated
Coastal Zone Management Plan for the Buffalo City
Municipality, the first in the Eastern Cape.
Our staff are experienced in a range of specific
coastal disciplines, including dune stabilization,
coastal dune ecology, estuarine ecology and
management, and marine ecology. We are also very
familiar with the requirements for developments in
the coastal zone. CES has also undertaken various
ecological studies in the coastal zone, advising on
appropriate areas for development within sensitive
vegetation sites, as well as a wide variety of
estuarine management studies.
