Eskom Holding SOC Ltd. group Technology and Commercial is in the process of undertaking major infrastrucual investments that includes the “Kudu Power Station (PS) – Oranjemond 1st and 2nd 400kV Lines Project”. The main purpose of this project is to integrate the new Kudu 885MW Power Station in Namibia into the Eskom network at the existing Oranjemond MTS substation in the Alexander Bay area in South Africa. It is proposed to construct 2 x 400kV powerlines and upgrade the Oranjemond MTS to accommodate these two lines accordingly.
The Gromis substation requires the 400kV line integration. This was authorised in 2007 (ROD 12/12/20/720). The authorisation covers a corridor for development of two (2) lines. The C and OEMPr developed as a result of the authorisation detailed only one (1) line, since only one (1) line required construction at the time. Now that the 400kV line is in construction the C and OEMPr needs to be amended and updated to reflect as such. The 400kV line is within the authorised corridor.
