FINAL BASIC ASSESSMENT REPORT: PROPOSED UPGRADE OF THE NDABAKAZI INTERCHANGE BETWEEN THE N2 AND THE R409 NEAR BUTTERWORTH, AMATHOLE DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY, EASTERN CAPE PROVINCE (DEA Ref: 14/12/16/3/3/1/2047

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) is proposing to upgrade the Ndabakazi Interchange located along the National Route N2 Section 17 (km 23.4) at the interchange with the R409, near Butterworth within the Amathole District Municipality of the Eastern Cape Province.

In particular, the project will consist of the following:

  • Increasing the road reserve width from 30m to a minimum of 50m wide;
  • Widening and/or new construction of existing drainage structures;
  • Construction of a new bridge on the R409 over the N2 with substantial vertical geometric improvements required;
  • Cut faces requiring stabilisation; and
  • Tarred temporary traffic diversion routes which will be used during the construction phase of the Ndabakazi Interchange.

CES has been appointed to conduct the Basic Assessment Process for the above mentioned development. 

 

The Draft Basic Assessment Report was made available for a 30-day public review period from the 19 July to 19 August 2019.
