FINAL SCOPING REPORT: PROPOSED HAMBURG QUARRY EXPANSION, R72 BETWEEN PORT ALFRED AND EAST LONDON, EASTERN CAPE
The Hamburg quarry was established in 2015 after the original environmental authorisation was granted by the Department of Minerals Resources and Energy (DMRE). The purpose of the quarry has been to provide material for the upgrading and on-going maintenance of the R72 between Port Alfred and East London. In order to continue using the material source, the surface extent of the quarry needs to be increased. It is proposed to extend the quarry towards the south and west. Extending the mining area will result in the clearing of indigenous vegetation.
The Final Scoping Report has been submitted to the DMRE for a decision to proceed to the Impact Assessment Stage.
