Full Scoping and Environmental Impact Assessment Process For the Pyro Waste Eco Facility Within the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, Eastern Cape

Project Description

Pyro Waste (Pty) Ltd, is proposing to develop an eco-waste thermal treatment facility, 4km north west of Fort Jackson industrial area near Mdantsane within the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM). The facility will entail general waste being treated via thermal treatment.  The technology that is proposed to be used is called an Eco-asher. The Eco-asher is a self-powered, non-combustion system which uses plasma technology to reduce the volume of mixed solid waste to 4% ashes in 1-2 hours. The Eco-asher can process 500 to 2500 kgs of waste per day, depending on the moisture content of the waste.

Pyro Waste intends to submit an integrated Environmental Authorisation (EA) and Waste License Application to the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT). In addition, an application for an Air Emissions License (AEL) will be submitted to BCMM. Furthermore, a Water Use License Application (WULA) will also be submitted to the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS).
