Pyro Waste (Pty) Ltd, is proposing to develop an eco-waste thermal treatment facility, 4km north west of Fort Jackson industrial area near Mdantsane within the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM). The facility will entail general waste being treated via thermal treatment. Pyro Waste (Pty) Ltd propose to use the 4 ton model (R840-IT), which has a chamber capacity of 450 kg (2 m3) and can process 100 kg – 170 kg of waste per hour (or >2400 kg per day), depending on the moisture content of the waste. For every 2 tons of domestic waste incinerated, the leftover ash is approximately 80 kgs (3% - 4%).
Pyro Waste intends to submit an integrated Environmental Authorisation (EA) and Waste License Application to the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT: Amathole Region). In addition, an application for an Air Emissions License (AEL) will be submitted to BCMM. Furthermore, a Water Use License Application (WULA) will also be submitted to the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS).
