SANRAL R516 Borrow Pit

BORROW PIT APPLICATION FOR THE UPGRADE OF THE R516 ROAD BETWEEN THABAZIMBI AND BELA BELA LOCAL MUNICIPALITIES, LIMPOPO

SANRAL proposes to upgrade two sections of National Route R516 which extends across the Thabazimbi and Bela Bela Local Municipalities, Waterberg District Municipality, Limpopo.

• Section 1 (R516-01), starts from KM 0.0 at the R511 intersection to Thabazimbi running eastwards towards Bela Bela, ending at KM 36.67, approximately 4 km before the Tooyspruit River crossing; and
• Section 2 (R516-01), starts from KM 36.67 on the R516, ending at KM 83.80, in the town of Bela Bela at the intersection with Road R101.

As per the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) regulations of 2014 (as amended), the SANRAL R516 project requires an Environmental Authorisation, from the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) and WUA application to the Department of Human Settlement, Water and Sanitation (DHSWS), respectively. The triggered activities are listed under Listing Notices 1 & 3 (published in Government Notices No. R 983 and No. R 985 respectively), and as such, the BA process needs to be followed.
