The Eastern Cape Department of Transport (ECDT) proposes to upgrade portions of the gravel district roads DR08034 and DR08035 to a tarred surface, and has been divided into three (3) distinct phases:
This application only concerns Phase 3 - the upgrade a 20 km section of the DR08035 road from Clarkebury to the Mjanyana Hospital in the Eastern Cape. This will include the upgrade and construction of bridges and culverts along the road. The aim of the road upgrade is to provide easy access to the hospital for villagers along the route of DR08035 from Clarkebury and surrounding areas.
CES was appointed to conduct the Basic Assessment Process for the above mentioned development. The Environmental Authorisation (EA) for the road has was issued to the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, by the Provincial Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs, and Tourism (DEDEAT) on the 17 August 2020. An amendment of the EA was issued on the 27 August 2020
