RC Buffelsfontein Solar (Pty) Ltd (the ‘Applicant’), a special purpose vehicle of Cainmani (Pty) Ltd (the ‘Developer’), plans to develop, construct and operate a Solar Photovoltaic Facility (SPVF) situated approximately 16 km southeast of Klerksdorp, within the North West Province of South Africa. The project site is situated in the City of Matlosana Local Municipality (LM) which forms part of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality (DM). The proposed 205MW Buffelsfontein SPVF is situated within the Klerksdorp Renewable Energy Development Zone (REDZ10) which was promulgated in GN 142 on 26February 2021 for large scale solar photovoltaic energy facilities.

The proposed Buffelsfontein SPVF will consist of up to 375 000 solar panels, with a total facility output of up to 205MW. The SPVF will also include an internal collector substation (SS). Ancillary infrastructure includes temporary and permanent laydown areas, access roads, internal roads and an operation and maintenance (O&M) building. The facility will cover an area of up to 255ha with construction clearance footprint of up to 37ha, rehabilitated to an operational clearance footprint of up to 26ha.
