UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN MASTERS OF CITY AND REGIONAL PLANNING GUEST LECTURE
INTRODUCTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND ASSESSMENT (2026)
“Bringing ecological awareness into social processes and social sensibility to ecological sustainability”
In May, the CES team presented a guest lecture as part of UCT's Master's course in City & Regional Planning, sharing a real-world Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) case studyfrom the Renoster Wind Farms. The session explored sustainability trade-offs, environmental systems, and the future-proof nature of green careers. This collaborative engagement highlights the critical role strategic thinking and interdisciplinary judgment play in modern spatial and environmental development.
It is incredibly impactful when experienced professionals step up to mentor the next generation, especially during a milestone like Youth Month. Bridging the gap between academic theory and real-world environmental planning gives young professionals the practical tools they need to navigate complex, real-world challenges.
Autumn photography on Residence Road and the entrance to the Architecture and Planning building perfectly encapsulates the profound metaphor for South Africa's ongoing socio-political journey. The rich, earthy, and warm hues reflect a nation continuously navigating transition, release, and harvest. This parallel between nature's seasonal shifts and our country's growth captures both the struggle for change and the promise of renewal and resilience.
