JUWI Renewable Energies (Pty) Ltd (the ‘Applicant’), proposes the development of the Gumeni PV1 and PV2 Solar Energy Facilities, i.e. Photovoltaic (PV) facilities with capacities of up to 100 MW, and associated infrastructure and overhead power lines (OHL) with a capacity of up to 132 kV. The Gumeni PV1 and PV2 Solar Energy Facility (SEF) are located approximately 4-11 km south of eNthokozweni in the Mpumalanga Province. The proposed SEFs are located outside of the Renewable Energy Development Zones (REDZ). The proposed projects trigger, among others, Activity 1 of Listing Notice 2 of the National Environmental Management Act, 107 of 1998 (NEMA) Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014 and therefore requires a Scoping and Environmental Impact Assessment (S&EIA) process to be undertaken.
Alternative overhead line routes, connecting to either the Prairie Main Transmission Substation in the north or to the Gumeni Substation in the south are proposed. The south OHL configuration (OHL Alternative 1) will be up to 4.0 km long with a servitude of 32 m. Alternatively, 132kV Loop-In Loop-Out (LILO) connections onto one of the existing 132kV powerlines within Eskom’s network will be utilised.
