RC Kuschke (Pty) Ltd (the ‘Applicant’), a special purpose vehicle (SPV) of Cainmani (Pty) Ltd (the ‘Developer’), proposes the development of the Kuschke Solar Energy Facility, a Photovoltaic facility with capacity of 265MW. The (delete -Roodepoort) Kuschke Solar Energy Facility (SEF) is located approximately 17 km south-west of Polokwane in the Limpopo Province.
The proposed SEF is located outside of the Renewable Energy Development Zones (REDZ) but within a strategic transmission corridor, the International Corridor. The proposed projects trigger, among others, Activity 1 of Listing Notice 2 of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA, Act 107 of 1998, as amended) Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014 (as amended), and therefore requires Scoping and Environmental Impact Assessment (S&EIA) processes to be undertaken.
The 132 kV OHL will connect the proposed Kuschke SEF to the existing Eskom Witkop Main Transmission Substation which is situated 1.5km north of the proposed Kuschke SEF. In accordance with Regulation 12 (1) of the 2014 NEMA EIA Regulations (as amended), the Project Developer has appointed CES Environmental and Social Advisory Services, to undertake the required S&EIA Processes to determine and mitigate the biophysical, social and economic impacts associated with the proposed developments.
