Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) is proposing to construct a 170,000m3 Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), a 170,000m3 Floating storage Unit (FSU) with an Onshore LNG Terminal, which will include the Onshore Regasification Facility (ORF), cryogenic pipeline and seawater pipelines, onshore storage of 440,000m3 of LNG and LNG truck loading facility, for the Port of Richards Bay South Dunes Precinct proposed Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal, City of uMhlathuze, King Cetshwayo District, Kwazulu‐Natal Province.
The proposed LNG Terminal project is required to assist in alleviating the current electricity crisis that South Africa is currently facing. The installation and operation of the LNG Terminal will ensure that the TNPA delivery of much-needed LNG as an energy mix and alternative fuel to support the Gas‐to‐Power Industry, Industrial use and etc. The LNG project aims to deliver seven (7) million tonnes per annum of LNG.
