Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) is proposing to construct marine infrastructure, including a new berth 207, jetty topside, a Regasified Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) pipeline and bulk services infrastructure for the Port of Richards Bay LNG Terminal, City of uMhlathuze, King Cetshwayo District, Kwazulu‐Natal Province.
For the FRSU solution, the regasified LNG pipeline will start at Berth 207 and traverse the port for +/‐ 13 km up to the Port boundary (gas distribution hub).
For the FSU solution, the regasified LNG pipeline will start at the Onshore Regasification Facility (ORF) outlet and traverse the port for +/‐ 13 km up to the Port boundary (gas distribution hub).
The proposed LNG Terminal project is required to assist in alleviating the current electricity crisis that South Africa is currently facing. The installation and operation of the LNG Terminal will ensure that the TNPA delivery of much-needed LNG as an energy mix and alternative fuel to support the Gas‐to‐Power Industry, Industrial use and etc. The LNG project aims to deliver seven (7) million tonnes per annum of LNG.
