Proposed Berlin Wind Energy Facility - WEF

Berlin RE Project (Pty) Ltd the ‘Applicant’, is proposing the development of the Berlin Wind Energy Facility (WEF) and associated infrastructure approximately 2.4 km north of the town of Ntabozuko (previously known as Berlin), within the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality and Amahlathi Local Municipality. The proposed Berlin WEF triggers various listed activities in terms of the NEMA EIA Regulations (2014, as amended) in Listing Notices 1, 2 and 3, and consequently requires a Scoping & Environmental Impact Assessment. The WEF will be located on 11 farms and will comprise of 26 wind turbines with a combined total output of 260 MW. 

Berlin RE Project (Pty) Ltd has appointed CES Environmental and Social Advisory Services, to undertake the required S&EIA Processes in order to determine and mitigate the biophysical, social and economic impacts associated with the proposed development.  

The Draft Environmental Impact Assessment Report has been submitted to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment (DFFE) for a decision regarding authorisation to proceed to the Environmental Impact Assessment phase of the application.
