Ravenna Energy (Pty) Ltd under SACE Projects (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of the Africa Clean Energy Solutions (ACES) Renewables Group is developing a 9MWac Ground Mount Solar Energy Facility (SEF) approximately 4km north of Benoni in the Gauteng Province. The project site is situated within Ward 25 of the of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. The aforementioned development will be on the Remaining Extent of the Farm Putfontein 26 IR, East Rand region of Gauteng. The anticipated lifespan of the Solar PV Facility is 25 years and construction is anticipated to be between 8 and 12 months. The electricity generated by the SEF will be supplied to private off-takers/traders.
The proposed Ravenna SEF will consist of up to 20 000 panels, with a total facility capacity of up to 9 MWAC. The SEF will also include a 11kV overhead powerline in order to connect the Ravenna Ground SEF to the existing Eskom Substation (this will be applied for in a separate environmental application). The SEF will also include a temporary and permanent laydown area, access roads and a construction compound (CC) area. The construction footprint of the proposed SEF will be up to 16.1ha/ 161 057m2 (inclusive of roads).
The proposed project will require a Basic Assessment, as the project activities trigger listed activities published under GNR. 983 and GNR. 985, as amended. The development will also require a Water Use Authorisation (WUA) from the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) in terms of the National Water Act (NWA, Act No. 36 of 1998). Coastal and Environmental Services (CES) has been appointed to undertake the environmental statutory processes for the project.
