PILIVILI EXIT ROUTE NAMPULA PROVINCE MOZAMBIQUE

INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ROUND OF PUBLIC CONSULTATION MEETINGS FOR PRESENTATION OF THE DRAFT RESETTLEMENT PLAN OF THE ADDENDUM TO THE PROPOSED PILIVILI MINE EXIT PATH , KENMARE, NAMPULA PROVINCE. MOZAMBIQUE

The heavy mineral ore bodies of Namalope and Pilivili, located in the Nampula Province, north-eastern Mozambique, are currently being mined by Kenmare. Kenmare needs to relocate the existing mining operations to the Nataka deposit, a proven resource. The Nataka deposit is located approximately 8 km south-west of Namalope, within Kenmare’s existing concession. The relocation of the mining operations is required to ensure that the provision of feedstock to maintain the current production rate of 1.2 million tonnes of ilmenite plus the co-products of zircon and rutile can continue.

An Addendum to the Resettlement Plan (RP) is currently underway for the Pilivili Mine Exit path, i.e., the transfer channel from the WCP-B Processing Plant to the new Nataka deposit. This exit area is not included in the 2018 Environmental License. The Pilivili Mine Exit path will trigger the economic resettlement of 92 farms belonging to 75 families and the physical resettlement of 10 houses.
